5 Months

Fiveeeeeeee months. I haven’t blogged in fiveeeeeee months. Holy moly!

What HAPPENED is my camera got heavy and I got busy with horse stuff and other stuff and the stuff I’ve been doing requires me to be there. Like … be there. Not shooting, but participating. So I haven’t been shooting much. And I love shooting. I do. It’s a big part of who I am and what I do. But I’ve been busy with work and training a horse and riding my other horse and playing fiddle and spending more time with my family and going backroading and offroading and working out at the gym and baking cupcakes and going to family dinners. And so photography has taken a back seat for a while, and I think I needed that. I’ll hop back into it here in the next month.

Photography-wise, I have a few weddings coming up. I’m super excited for them. I have wonderful couples this year, and I’m very thankful for them. I’m also going to start to re-focus my photography on pets, family life, and ranch life. If you’re in the Tulsa or Joplin area and you’re interested in booking something like that, shoot me a message and we’ll figure something out. I’ll still be booking 5 -ish weddings per year.

In the meantime, here are a couple-few (Okie-ism!) cell phone shots that I’ve posted on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook in the past couple months, just to give you an idea of what I’ve been up to. I love hearing from friends——old and new——so don’t be shy about leaving a comment or dropping me a line just to say hey!

xoxo,
HaleyMy herd got a little silly one evening … the best camera is the camera you have with you.

T-town from the interstate.

A cute letter from my dad.

Oh my stars, I love this girl.

One from this weekend headed home from the sand dunes … now that’s a cozy ride home.

Life is good!

Carol - Love them all, Haley. Always fun to look at your photos!

Amy + Josh (Lodi, California)

I have nine million things to say about Amy, and all of them start with “I FREAKING LOVE YOU” and end with “I REALLY FREAKING LOVE YOU.” I’ve known her for 20 years, and——hey, when you’ve bonded over tie-dyed dogs, ill-fated camping trips, and Lucky Charms, you KNOW it’s a friendship that cannot be broken——I see us being friends for another 20 and beyond.

I spent two days with Josh and Amy’s families in Lodi, California. From the rehearsal on Thursday to the limo ride home on Friday night, I was there as family, not as the hired photographer, and I hope the Harris and Jackson families truly know how much that means to me.

That said, I was the hired photographer. I chose to blog this set in black and white for a couple of reasons: One, I’ve always wanted to do that. Plain and simple, I enjoy processing in black and white more than I do color. Two, in this set, I found that the black and white photos made me stop and look at each one for a while, instead of breezing through them. I hope they do that for you, too.

The words that paint the pictures that the photos hopefully tell are generosity, family, warmth, and genuine care for each other.

Amy, I’m so glad you found Josh. I remember dress shopping with you back in February, and your mom saying something about how he really brings out the best in you. I like that.

I love you dearly. I REALLY FREAKING LOVE YOU.

A little General Hospital … of course there was a deranged bride. Ha.

Brett - Awesome, awesome, awesome. Great work.

Janice - Beautiful pics, Haley. I love her shoes with I Do on the bottoms!! I think you captured the magic of the day for them.

Jessica - You are a black and white monster. Holy crap, these are amazing. The color shots are fantastic, but it is really saying something when a b&w has more “color” than a color photo. Fantastic.

Lone Hawk Farm Wedding (Boulder, Colorado)

Meghan and Jason are the kind of people that everyone just wants to be around. You know? They’re nice and pretty and funny and put-together and have such neat families, AND they met walking their dogs, which automatically means I like them.

Their family and friends from every corner of the country, it seemed, came out to Lone Hawk Farms outside of Boulder, Colorado, to celebrate together.

The word that comes to mind when I think of this wedding is genuine, and I hope that comes across in the photos I’ve posted here.

As always, thanks for stopping by!

xo,

Haley

Meghan and some of the other gals got ready at Salon Sabiha in Boulder. Here’s a shot of a very pretty girl, right?

Travis Percival, who came out to be my second shooter/awesome assistant for the day, took a bunch of great photos of this girl getting her hair done. It wasn’t until she was done with her appointment and walked out the door did we realize she wasn’t part of the wedding. Ha! He shot this one too … and yes, that’s the bride!

Here’s my take on the rest of the day. Enjoy!

Audrey Hepburn lookalike? I think so!

The peacocks got a little fresh and were watching while Meghan got into her gown.

By this point, I’m surprised I could see through the viewfinder, I was crying so hard. Like, seriously. Not just a little teared up. Goodness.

Amanda - Dangit Haley, you made me cry again! Congrats Meghan and Jason! Beautiful couple and beautiful wedding :-)

Gail Goethals - I absolutely loved the photos! I was unable to attend Meghan and Jason’s wedding, but these pictures make me feel like I was there. These will bring back beautiful memories for Meghan, Jason and their families. Well done.
Gail

Arlene Curinga - What beautiful pictures for a truly wonderful wedding. Wishing you great things in your future together. Love to you are your families.

anita hurley - Amazingly gorgeous photos! You captured the easy beauty of this wonderful couple. So lovely!

Mollie + Spencer (Frog Belly Farm Wedding)

I have known Mollie’s mother, Kathie, for 10 years. We used to work together at Barnes & Noble. Kathie and I got to be pretty close back then. We’d lock ourselves in the office after the store closed and laugh, cry, share stories, and I think we even argued once or twice. Mollie’s brother, Colin, and I became good friends soon after. I first met Mollie when she came into the store to visit her mother. I’ll say it: I was intimidated. Mollie is tall, blonde, confident, and beautiful. She’s a couple years older than me, and we went to the same high school, though I didn’t know her back then. Boulder’s a small enough town, though, that a decade later when she got engaged, Mollie asked me to document her wedding day. After getting to know Mollie, the same applies: she’s gorgeous and self-assured. She’s also very kind and genuine, which made me feel right at home.

Photographing this day—this family—was as comfortable to me as photographing my own family. They are warm and authentic and generous and funny and I love them dearly.

And Colin read aloud from 50 Shades of Grey while the girls were getting hair and makeup done (with help from Brett Birdsong).

That speaks for itself, I think.

Oh, and Mollie and I have matching dogs. White with black belly spots. A little rascally looking. Steal sandwiches.

Enough talky talk … here are a few of my favorite photos from Mollie and Spencer’s wedding day. I hope you feel as though you were there when you view them. It was a wonderful day.

Thanks for stopping by!

xoxo,

Haley

Brett took the following image.

Brett shot this next one. I love it.

Janice - Such beautiful pictures, Haley. You’ve given them treasures that they will cherish forever. I like so many of them, but the girl with the cat is wonderful!! ‘Not your mother’s’ wedding album, that is for sure. :-)

Emily - Ooooh! Beautiful Haley! I particularly love the last one.

Kristina Reilly - Haley,
Similar to you, I worked with Tom Rafferty. At the time I was a young 20 something and looked up to Tom and his family as such a wonderful example of what I hope I would have one day. You did a beautiful job capturing and love of such an amazing family. My best to Mollie and Spencer.

Peter - Great job Haley! The cat is fantastic as well. Can’t remember seeing a cat in a wedding shot before but this one is a classic.

Amanda - Beautiful- I teared up a few times and I don’t even know them! Congratulations Mollie and Spencer :-)

A Pony Named Dad

I just love this horse.

Simple as that.

This morning I walked out into the pasture to visit with the herd. The after-rain light, even so late in the morning, lent itself very kindly to Dad’s red coat.
